The Stench of Dirty Diapers!!!

Never gets me moving, sad, but true. A naked baby with the look of fear and concentration, that will get me running!!! I'm talking about potty training for you out there who would like to help and chime in...

I think when I child is ready for potty training there a certain tell-tell signs.
*The kid hides when they poop in their diaper.
*They tell you when they go potty in their pants &/or in freaks them out after they do their number.

I'm easy going about potty training. I don't push the child. Maren's 2 years old and we have started the process of potty training. We go potty if she asks or if I see her working her magic. I reward her and praise her and make a big ordeal. My favorite technique is let walk around the house naked, you and they will learn real quick when they need to go the the bathroom.

Some of you are doing this for the first time and some are doing this with a different flavor. For my first time mommy readers out there lets give them our secrets of the trade.

I know this sounds crazy but...When Ryan was potty training I was at my wits end. We tried everything under the sun, from charts to rewards to the hooray dance. I was getting ready to have Jaren in a couple of months so I had to act fast. I pointed out a building we passed by every day and told Ryan thats where the potty and poopy man works. Then everytime he would do a good job using the toilet for the day, the next day he would get a letter from the potty and poopy man. It was just a little note with stick figures that said good job and thanks for the work and had three skittles in it. Ryan was so proud of himself and everyday we past the "building" he would shout goodbye potty and poopy man, thanks for the letter. Crazy I know, but I was desperate and he was so motivated then.

Good ideas! One thing I did with Cayden was I put him in underware with a diaper over the underware. This way he could feel how yucky it was. It did magic for me, he hated it. That and starburst did the trick.

I'm loving all the great potty tips! We're just starting out with this fabulous endeavor, and I think I've been too easy going to actually make any progress. :0)

Always helps to hear tricks of the trade...I'll have to let you know which ones work for my little munchkin!

When I was potty training my big three, we bought a toy, took it out of the box and put it on the mantel for all to see. They all wanted to play with said toy. I would tell them that they could play with it when the went on the potty. So, They would run in do their business and then I would get the toy down for a while and then we would put it back. After a while, they were so used to going to the potty, that they forgot to ask about the toy.

I feel sorry for anyone potty training...ugh!! It's my least favorite thing about being a mother. The only advice I have is be patient and you have to be ready for lots and lots of accidents. I really like Kim's toy idea. I wish I would of thought of that!

I tried to potty train Diana, and she wouldn't budge. She spent the night with a friend 2 doors down who had been potty trained, and the mom was upset because the little girl had an accident. Diana came home and was completely potty trained. So, maybe I should have asked the woman down the street, but I didn't. In the scheme of things....I have five grown kids that are all potty trained...so I must have done something right.

I will definitely save your tricks of the trade for our turn...maybe we can start at 6 mos (ha)since we have numero deuce to train. Love the blog and glad the Scotts have joined the rest of us internet addicts in showing off our beautiful children. Because personally I'm not sure kids get any cuter than Ben and Maren!

I swear by the naked technique. Although I had wood floors at the time and I have only had one child to practice it on. He was potty trained right when he turned 2 and he never had maybe two accidents. Maybe that is because he is a clean freak when it comes to bathroom behavior.

The other thing I think is important is to NOT use pullups. We went straight to underwear and never looked back.

And Charlotte, I am not sure Coren is completely trained. :) Just kidding, of course.

Farrah, that's a family secret that might have gotten out when you all went to see Michael Buble. Sometimes you just can't hold it back.

When I was nannying,(is that how you spell it?)first of all, boys are easier to train, I think. But I think a great thing is to take them like every hour and sit and try. Good idea with praising and rewarding. Keep up the good work!
